I came here because my prior dentist was not getting persistent stains off my teeth. Julianna and Karen were incredible! So friendly and thorough. My teeth are spotless and white —this is what leaving the dentist should feel like! So happy I switched to this practice.

Teeth Cleaning In Wappingers Falls

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. It’s a sign of health and happiness, and it’s a reflection of how well you take care of yourself. One of the most important things you can do to maintain a healthy smile is to get regular dental cleanings. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the importance of regular dental cleanings, how long a dental cleaning takes, what happens during a dental cleaning, whether a dental cleaning is painful, the consequences of not having a dental cleaning, the cost of a dental cleaning, and what to do if you haven’t had a dental cleaning in a while.

Importance of Regular Dental Cleanings

Regular appointments with your dental hygienist are just as important as regular check-ups with your dentist. A committed brushing and flossing habit at home is good, but it can only go so far in supporting the overall health and good maintenance of your teeth. Regular dental cleanings every six months can help to identify changes in the mouth and teeth, monitor your oral health, and track any variations or areas of concern.

Duration of a Dental Cleaning Appointment

A dental cleaning usually takes around 30 minutes, but can sometimes take longer if you require treatment. Appointments generally last no longer than an hour.

Procedure of a Dental Cleaning

Before the hygienist commences with cleaning your teeth, they will first check all of the soft oral and gum tissue in and outside of the mouth. They will check your mouth, cheeks, and jaw for any signs of oral cancer or disease. Your hygienist will check the gum line to ensure your gums and teeth are working symbiotically to support a firm, stable foundation. Any tartar or calculus build-up around the teeth is scraped away, and teeth are polished with an abrasive cleanser, removing any surface stains and discoloration from food and beverages.

Pain During a Dental Cleaning

Unless a patient has particularly sensitive teeth, an oral condition or periodontal disease causing pain or discomfort, a dental cleaning is usually a straightforward and non-invasive procedure. If you have any reservations, or anxiety about what you might experience during the process, talk to your dentist or hygienist ahead of your scheduled appointment. We offer many options for relaxation, pain relief, and sedation. We want you to feel completely at ease while undergoing your routine dental cleanings, in order that these are simply timely maintenance checks, ensuring your teeth and gums are intact and supporting your oral health as a whole.

Consequences of Not Having a Dental Cleaning

Failure to eliminate build-up created by debris, missed by everyday brushing, can start as redness, sensitivity, and bleeding, developing into loose and painful teeth. Diseases of the gum, left untreated, can quickly escalate into more serious, painful, and costly conditions to treat. Regular dental cleanings can help to identify these issues early on and prevent them from becoming more serious.
