People with misaligned teeth often elect to have their teeth straightened with orthodontic treatments that use dental appliances like braces and retainers. These unsightly metal dental devices were, in the past, the best orthodontic option available. In recent years, however, a new dental technology called Invisalign has grown immensely in popularity because of its ability to correct smiles with alignment problems in a much more discreet and less invasive manner.
The Invisalign system offers patients many advantages over traditional metal braces. Invisalign uses clear plastic trays that are custom-fit to the patient’s mouth as opposed to the metal wires and brackets required by the braces. The aligners are designed to be switched out approximately every two weeks as the patient’s teeth progressively move into place.
The Invisalign procedure begins with a consultation at our Wappingers Falls Dental. When you receive INVISALIGN there is a custom mold of your teeth that the aligners will be made from. Because the Invisalign aligners are custom molded to your mouth, the irritation and discomfort often associated with traditional braces becomes non-existent. The first set of aligners closely hugs your teeth to start the shifting process. Every subsequent tray after that is designed to move your teeth a little bit closer to the desired position. This method for aligning teeth has actually been proven to work faster than braces.
Most of the patients who receive this treatment use it because they do not want the unsightly metallic mouth created by braces. Invisalign aligners are completely clear, often remaining unnoticeable to even the most observant onlooker. Teens, in particular, love the fact that Invisalign aligners are invisible which, our dentists believe makes it much more likely that they will adhere to the requirements of the orthodontic procedure.
Because Invisalign aligners are removable, patients are still allowed to eat their favorite foods such as popcorn and nuts. Plus, there is no special oral hygiene required, simply remove the aligners to brush and floss your teeth as you normally would.
